10 JUNE 2022
Hello! Welcome to this series of adventures in Queensland, Australia. We were in Singapore, our hometown, before our flight. Oh, right! I almost forgot! My name is ONG ROU YING TIFFANY and I am 9 this year.
Changi Airport
I felt so excited to be able to travel overseas with my parents again after two and a half years. When my father told me that we would be travelling to Cairns on Singapore Airlines, I was even more excited since I could watch movies on the plane.
Our flight to Cairns was early in the morning so we arrived at Changi Airport before sunrise. However, it was not without drama at the airport as my parents didn’t fill up some forms online that which were required due to the recent COVID-19 control measures in Australia. Therefore, I advise you to carefully check the forms that are needed by Australian authorities as they could change at short notice.
Movies on the plane
There were many movies, like Dora and the Lost City, but I had already watched most of the movies, so there was not much else to watch. About an hour after the plane took off, lunch was served by the SIA stewardess. I had chicken with mashed potatoes. It was delicious.
After watching three movies on the plane, we finally landed safely at Cairns International Airport after 5pm local time.
Checking into Cairns
We hailed a taxi from the airport and it took us straight to our hotel. The taxi ride didn’t take long as the airport was close to the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel where we would be staying for the next three nights.
The hotel offered us three nights of free drinks if we didn’t need any room service. My father took up the offer right away as the drinks seemed like a better deal.
Our hotel room overlooked Dundee Aquarium where we were going to have dinner later that evening.
A new adventure begins! I wonder what will happen this time!!!
Having a nice warm cookie from the hotel before dinner
As we had some time before our dinner, we explored the vicinity of our hotel.
I skipped along the pathway merrily as we explored Cairns. I took this nice photo outside Cairns City Council building with my loving mother when we were exploring our neighborhood.
Look at the colorful jacket that I was wearing. I look like a parrot, don’t I?
It is winter in June so it was rather cold on some nights. If you are visiting Cairns in June, do remember to bring some warm clothes!
We had our dinner at Cairns Dundee Aquarium (which is opposite the road from our hotel, DoubleTree). The food there was delicious and we had a scrumptious meal. The amount of food given was large but fresh. Their chicken was crispy and tender and their service was good. However, don’t order the seafood platter as most of the food is fried which my parents thought it didn’t do justice to the fresh seafood. I felt rather grand enjoying my food while watching the fishes in the tank swim merrily. My favorite fish was a small triangular yellow fish that has black stripes, do you know what it is called?
Fishes, fishes, one two three four, what kind of fish is this ginormous black one in the picture below? Do you know?
